The Story of Little Krishna
In the village of Vrindavan, there was a child who made the whole world smile. His name was Krishna, and even the cows would dance when he played his flute.
One afternoon, little Krishna and his friends were playing by the Yamuna river when they saw a great serpent, Kaliya, poisoning the waters. The fish were dying, the birds would not fly near.
All the villagers trembled. But Krishna leapt into the river and danced upon the serpent's many heads — not out of cruelty, but to remind Kaliya that even the mighty must choose kindness.
Kaliya's wives pleaded for mercy. Krishna smiled — because that was what he was waiting for. He freed Kaliya and sent him to the ocean.
That evening, mother Yashoda asked, "Were you not afraid?"
Krishna laughed. "How can there be fear, Maiyya, when you are the one I dance home to?"
